Addition!

This week we have been learning to find the total of two groups of objects by counting all of them. We learned about the sign + for adding and we had a go at writing our own number sentences. We used different manipulatives to find a total such as objects, beads and number lines.
For computing we looked at the RM starting graph programme. We looked at the results of our favourite colours from last week and we inputted this data into the programme. We then got our own class graph. Lots of children had a go at finding their own data on the class such as eye colour, hair colour and favourite fruit and then making their graph on the computer.
We found out about rainbows and how they are formed and we learned the song 'I can sing a Rainbow'. We used instruments to make the sound of the rain. For science we did an experiment with skittles. When we added water we saw beautiful rainbow colours on the plate.
For home learning this week we would like as many of you as possible to complete the Big Bird Watch for the RSPB. It will be interesting to find out which birds you have in your gardens.

  1. Looking out of his toy room window for birds, he said “the window has 4 sides like a square”. Counting 1,2 1,2. 2 + 2 is 4”

She has been asking me about the order of the colours
We made up a story using a rainbow

  3. We also spent time spotting the different birds in the garden. There was a red kite flying overhead, lots of pidgeons and magpies, a robin, a blackbird and a wagtail. We would have more birds coming into our garden if the neighbours cats stayed away!!

The children have come back from the holidays eager to learn and to share what they did. We have read the story of 'The Train Ride'...
